Support Protest of Active Teachers of Lambton
As former teachers we are extremely disturbed that Bill 160 will dismantle an
education system which we played a part in building. Certainly any education system can be
improved and we support ongoing improvement. However, with this legislation, the
government is not only having a negative impact on the education of future generations but
it is also destroying rights of collective bargaining that teachers have fought for and
established through many years of negotiations.
To show our support for the teachers of Lambton County who are making a significant sacrifice
for the future of education for the children of this province, we are taking the following
initiatives:
1. We are contributing $500 to the publication of "ON THE LINE" newsletter.
2. We are encouraging through a phone network, all retired teachers to join active teachers in their demonstrations at various schools in their neighbourhoods and David Boushy's and Marcel Beaubien's offices..
3. We are encouraging retired teachers to communicate to their elected officials their disagreement with Bill 160 and the damage that it will do to the education system of the province.
4. We are asking retired teachers to join in the rally on
Friday, November 7 at Centennial Park at 1:30.
Retired teachers are asked to meet at 1:00-1:15 in the Duc d'orleans parking lot to
organize as a group to show our support.
